How long have you been involved with photography?
Since 1972 when I photographed President Nixon at the age of 7 years old. His words of encouragement were “Hurry up and take the picture kid, I’m late”. |
How did you first discover your passion for photography?
In high school photo class when I was kicked out for smoking in the dark room. I studied in the library and through various books and manuals. |
How do you choose your subject matter?
As a photojournalist it’s usually whatever the day's news is. |
What is your dream photo assignment?
A project I came up with called “The Traveling CF Card 2 Square Photographing The Globe“. I’m sending 2 CF cards around the world to different photojournalist who will photograph things in their areas where they live. Then it’s shipped to the next photojournalist in another country and so on and so on. |
How does Camera Armor help you with your work?
I just want to thank you for saving my camera. I own a Canon Mark III and I bought your product. The last assignment I had was with law enforcement. The officer I was working with pulled over a very suspicious vehicle occupied by two male adults. One of the suspects got out of the car and became very hostile toward me and my gear. The cop told him to chill or he'd mace him. At that point the guy tried to run.
I put my camera on the trunk of the car and helped run the bad guy down. I'm a former police officer so it's in my blood. We tackled the suspect and the other passenger in the car decided to take off. ARRGGHHH! My camera gear was on the car. We managed to pursue this guy at speeds reaching almost 110 mph. The camera stayed on the trunk because of the rubber and it sort of stuck in place. That was until the suspect tried to turn a corner at 80 mph plus. The camera rolled once off the trunk and then hit a street light first then bouncing and continuing down the street like a super ball bouncing and flying through the air. It finally came to a sudden 80+ mile an hour stop when it hit a sewer drain and disappeared into the dark smelly under world beneath the sidewalk.
"It's gone...completely wasted, crushed, a million pieces, broken glass, LCD crushed", this is what went through my mind. We go over to where my camera disappeared and with my tac light I found it back in a corner. I snagged the camera and it wasn't broken. Wait - it's not even scratched, It still worked! It even took a couple pictures tumbling around. So needless to say your product worked quite well.
Although the Armor that was on my camera is destroyed and mangled, I will buy another one because it sacrificed itself for my baby. When I get paid for that assignment I'm buying another one and also one for my 5D. There is no question in my world that your world keeps me shooting. |
