How long have you been involved with photography? Most of my life. |
How did you first discover your passion for photography? As a kid, once I felt the thrill of capturing memories on paper, I was hooked. My earliest subjects were my pets and pretty much anything outdoors. As my skills evolved, I got more serious about workshops, photo competitions and studying under several world-class underwater photographers, including Chris Newbert and Birgitte Wilms. |
How do you choose your subject matter? Other than assignments, I shoot what I appreciate in nature. I especially enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, riding and diving, so there is never a lack of subjects. It’s always magical when lighting and subjects come together for a dramatic image, especially in the mountains and back country. |
What is your dream photo assignment? Working with National Geographic on assignment on a tropical underwater location searching for and shooting bizarre macro creatures or Great White sharks. I’d also love to hang out on a working Western ranch to capture the spirit of the cowboy lifestyle. |
How does Camera Armor help you in your work? As an outdoor photographer and equestrian, I do a lot of trail riding and hiking in the back country. There’s always a risk of dropping your camera, especially while on horseback. I appreciate the added protection Camera Armor provides. |

Joanne Panizzera Photographer Statement: |
| |
I’m a life-long outdoor junkie and love adventure travel with the opportunity to shoot both above and below the sea, especially when it involves animals. I always strive to preserve the integrity of a subject’s natural state and admit to “kicking and screaming” over the transition to digital. I’m not a fan of overly manipulated photos. |
